Relationship between government budget balance and stock market return for companies listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange

The objective of this research was to determine the effects of government budget balance on the performance of the securities listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. This study was carried out to find out wheather investors can capitalize on the expected changes in the deficit as they make their investment and make better treturns. The study focused on the period between 2002 to 2012 as this period reflect when we had one government in place and yet the data points were sufficient to carry out the study.

The influence of emerging land use patterns on wildlife conservation in Kenya; a case of migratory corridor in Kajiado county

The purpose of the study was to establish the influence of emerging land use patterns on wildlife conservation in Kajiado County in Kitengela sub-County. To achieve this the study focused on the following objectives; to identify the influence of human settlement activities on the wildlife conservation, to establish the influence of agricultural activities on the conservation of wildlife, to determine the influence of industrial activities on the conservation of wildlife and To establish influence of the recreational activities on the conservation of wildlife.

Stabilization of Silt Clay Soil Using Molasses for Small Dam Embankment Construction as inner Zone

The Agriculture sector contributes 45% of Tanzania’s GDP and about 30% of its export earnings, while employing over 80% of the nation’s work-force (National Irrigation Master Plan, 2002). The government of Tanzania is investing more in rainwater harvesting technology such as construction of earth fill dam in the country to continue supporting agricultural production. This research work was aimed to stabilize silt clay soil using molasses for construction of small earthfill dam embankment as inner zone.

Strategies for Adapting to Climate Change in Rural Sub-Saharan Africa

The ten ASARECA member countries (Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda) have adopted, or are planning to adopt, a range of climate change adaptation strategies in agriculture (see Table 1 for a summary). Of the 26 strategies mentioned, only two are common to all 10 countries, while five more are common to five or more. The strategies common to all member countries include the development and promotion of drought-tolerant and early-maturing crop species and exploitation of new and renewable energy sources.

An empirical assessment of the link between Kenya’s indirect taxation and economic growth

This study analyses the impact of indirect taxes as a whole and the different types of indirect taxes in particular, on economic growth within the context of a simple endogenous growth model. Using a time series analysis for a period of thirty-one years, the study confirms that indirect taxes cause distortions in the market decisions and consequently impact negatively on economic growth.

Challenges of Gender Mainstreaming in the Public Sector of Kenya

Gender mainstreaming is integral to a country's sustainable development. Development progress of any country is also pegged on access to optimal use of resources for both men and women. Gender mainstreaming of policies and programs in both the public and private sector is important if gender equality and equity for all citizens is to be achieved. Gender mainstreaming also results in more effective service on the part of operation, power and resources.

The relationship between trading volume and price volatility of shares in the Nairobi Securities Exchange

This study intended to examine the price- volume movements in the NSE, in order to determine the impact of changes in trade volume on the volatility of stock prices. Traded volume is the , measure of how many trades take place for a security or on an exchange on a given trading day. A high trading volume is an indicator of a high level of interest in a security at its current price. The research design was a correlational study and the population of study consisted of all the 20 companies forming the NSE20 - share index by December 31, 2011.

Assessment of occupational stress levels among public sector employees: the case of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports

The main aim of this study was to assess occupation stress levels among public sector employees in Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The study was set to achieve the following specific objectives namely; to determine the various prevalent sources of stress as experienced by employees within the Ministry; determine the levels of stress by social demographic characteristics (age, gender, length of service and position) of employees in the Ministry and; determine the effects of stress on job performance among the employees in the Ministry. The study adopted descriptive research design.

Adsorption characteristics of captafol pesticide by sediment and soil samples: apparent thermodynamic properties using spectroscopic methods

This study involved adsorption of captafol on red soil obtained from Kwale county and the sediments collected from Ngong river, by varying the initial concentration of the adsorbate, shaking time and weight of adsorbent. The sediment collected from Ngong river and the red soil obtained from Kwale county used were analysed for pH, texture, cation exchange capacity and organic carbon content.
